These are the options available in action menu

1) Record: Record option allows user to start recording and stop recording
2) Play entire test suite: This option will help to run all testcases in Testcase pane
3) Play current test case: By using this option we can run the selected testcase from the Testcase pane
4) Toggle Break point : By using this option we can debug the code

5) set clear/start point: You can start execution from a specific command in the middle of the test case, helps you to debug the code.  To set a startpoint, select a command, right-click, and from the context menu select Set/Clear Start Point.

Regression Testing in Software Testing:  

After developer fixing any bug/ issue  or after applying any patch to the code in the application QA/Test Engineer need to test related functionalities  for unexpected side effects. so Regression Testing ensures that all functionalities  are working fine with latest changes. If QA find any issue/bug he/she will raise that bug so that develops will fix those side effect issues.

Re-testing in software Testing:

After developer fixing any bug/ issue  or after applying any patch to the code in the application QA/Test Engineer need to check whether bug properly fixed or not. This is called "Re-testing".

Equivalence class partitioning in software testing

Equivalence class partitioning:


It is a black box testing technique with the help of this technique we can divide the data into valid parts and invalid parts

For example take this requirement: Username should take alphanumerics only

For this requirement we can write ECP like this

Valid: all alphabets a to z, all numbers 0 to 9 

Invalid: special characters

After that we can write testcases like this

Positive test cases:

1) Verify the functionality of the username field by entering alphabets
2) Verify the functionality of the username field by entering numbers

Negative test case

1)Verify the functionality of the username field by entering specials characters

How to capture screenshot for failed testcase automatically in selenium IDE

To capture screenshots automatically for failed testcases first we need to install "Screenshot onfail" plugin to Firefox, need to restart the browser. After restarting the browser you can see "Screenshot on fail" button on the selnium IDE.By default it will be in"off" state. To turn on click on the button, we can change the reorts folder also by clicking  drop down button next to "Screenshot on fail" button

Advanced element identification techniques in Xpath

In many cases we can observe that small changes in the application made to the application and previously identified Xpath statements will not work.

we need to get short and least breakable xpath 

Use "combination" of attributes to make the XPath more specific

always use "Relative XPath" instead of "Absolute XPath"

Relative XPath Example: Relative xpath always starts with // 

                   //*[@id='s']

AbsoluteXPathExample: html/body/div/div[4]/div/div[2]/div[1]/div/form/div/input[1]

Use id,name attributes if available

Boundary value analysis in software Testing

Boundary value analysis(BVA):  It is a black-box testing Technique used to cover the boundary conditions in both positive way and negative way.

Example:

Requirement: username filed should take 5 to 8 characters only.

here minimum=5, maximum=8 characters

min=5

min+1=6

min-1=4

max=8

max-1=7

max+1=9

For this Requirement we can write the boundary value analysis testcases like this

Positive Testcases:

1) verify the functionality of username filed by entering 5 characters

2) verify the functionality of username filed by entering 6 characters

3) verify the functionality of username filed by entering 8 characters

4) verify the functionality of username filed by entering 7 characters

Negative Test cases:

1) verify the functionality of username filed by entering 4 characters

2) verify the functionality of username filed by entering 9 characters

 The options available in "Edit" menu of the selenium IDE are listed below

1) Undo

2) Redo 

3) Cut

4) Copy

5) Paste

6) Delete

7) Select All

8) Insert New command

9) Insert New Comment

1) Undo:  The "undo" option in selenium IDE undeos last action you do in selenium IDE. key board shortcut for this is Ctrl+Z

2) Redo:  The "Redo" option in selenium IDE will redo the last action you have done on selenium IDE .Key board short kut is shift+ctrl+Z

3)  Cut:   By using this option we can cut the selected text in selenium IDE. For Example(1.cut the base url 2. cut the commands 3. cut the text in Command, Target, Value ) 
Note : We cannot cut the test case in Selenium IDE by using Cut option but we can do this with the help of Delete. Key board short kut is ctrl+x

4)  Copy:  By using this option we can copy any text in selenium IDE. (ex: copy text in Base Url,copy command etc)
Note: We cannot copy entire "Test case" in selenium IDE
Key board short cut is ctrl+c

5) Paste: By using this option we can paste the copied items in selenium IDE. Key board short cut is ctrl+v

6) Delete: By using this option we can delete commands ,Testcases.. etc

7) Select All: By using this option we can select all the commands we have added in the command pane.

8) Insert New Command: By using this option we can insert new command pane

9) Insert New Comment : By using this option we can add comment to the selenium IDE. Target and value are "Read only" for comment. comments are colored in "purple".
